How to Keep a Field Journal

Dip your index finger in a spring fed pond, and paint a word on the sky. Pick a fitting word – one that will billow and condense – let the word soak through your clothes and fancy backpack.  Resist wiping characters away. Leave them in your tangled hair. Kick your shoes off and walk and wander deer-pressed paths. Bring snacks in a Ziploc bag. Take at least one nap. Do not worry about runny ink or mud caked pages. Dip. Paint. Sleep and wake. Wander.
